I was shooting some video with my Canon 7D when what to my wondering eyes should appear? No it wasn’t a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer. On the upper right hand side of the screen I spotted a red dot. The dreaded hot pixel !! Not surprising, that this happens occasionally, considering that there are 18 million pixels in the 7D. I of course panicked, as I will be on the road for the next 20 days and, have some very important shoots during that time. How am I going to get this camera to Canon for remapping and have it back by Wednesday? Luckily, with a little research, I quickly found the answer. I was going to do this myself. Here’s what I did and it worked like a charm.
Getting Rid of Dead Pixels on your Canon DSLR:
1) Detach Lens. Make sure to put the camera cap on! Do not leave your camera open!
2) Go to Sensor Cleaning. Select Clean Manually.

3) Let it go for 60 seconds. Then power the camera off.
It’s that easy! You should find that you have gotten rid of the dead pixel.
If this doesn’t work you will probably have to send the camera back to Canon for remapping but, in my case, this did the trick and saved the day.

Great trick but unfortunately didn’t work for me. I have about 9 dead pixels so I think it’s a little bigger problem though. Thanks
Yeah. Very sorry
This is for a ” I have a dead pixel, what ? ” situation. Yours should be sent to Canon or the camera manufacturer for remapping
Thank you, i think worked for me, well i cant see them any more, hopefully never will! very good tip! cheers!
I enjoy this data shown and this has provided with me a few sort of desire to succeed for some reason, so thanks.
Awesome, this worked for me. It got rid of the major hot pixels I had. There was still a few very minor ones that I only noticed when I zoomed in really far. Don’t even see them at normal size.
I’m using a T2i and have a few white/dead pixels
Is the camera meant to be making some kind of cleaning noise during this process? When I turn on manual cleaning I hear the mirror go up and then complete silence, it’s meant to do that, right? I thought I would hear the same sound the automatic sensor cleaning makes.
